"Minimal Friends" with NOX (2018 Collaborations Overview 2/5)

Image
“ Minimal Friends” NOX (prod. By Kev Brown) [March 2018] https://soundcloud.com/kingnox/minimal-friends-ft-allone Nox in full-form performing NOX is a fellow Long Island rapper and was a relatively new friend at the time of this collaboration, after catching him live a handful of times, it was clear we both had a verbose and intellectual approach to writing with an insistent emphasis on our strange sides and leaning into our interests. He's a fantastic freestyler (Here are some episodes of my Spontaneous Sundays with AllOne we did together: Ep. 55   ep. 60 , ep. 90 ) as well so we bonded on our love for the improvised craft. Nox, like Jesse, presented the ideal preparedness for a guest request, bringing the lo-fi Kev Brown instrumental to me as well as his fully formed verse and a solid intention for my role in the track. When he told me the theme and that he intended on calling it “minimal friends”, a sort of anthem for the outsider, a confessional tribute to...

Audio-VisuAll... my goal of sharing more video content!

Hey AllOne family, The pre-order-amble: It has been some time hasn't it?!  Well, you have have heard, I am releasing a new album soon ( "I've Been Thinking..."  on May 3rd), I am planning an east coast tour, among other things and a lot has been happening!  This reminds me that I've been meaning to rekindle my relationship with this blog!  I post on social media daily and end up feeling that this blog is an aside to all of that or is only deserving of "really grand musings or giant events" and inevitably akin to writer's block (blog?) I end up sharing nothing at all!  So I'd like to talk about one of my goals and share a bunch of great things that have come of my endeavor to fulfill it! Filming before sunrise with Austin Sandick for an as-yet-unreleased video for our song "Cardiac Compass (path to preservation"  One of the goals of this year (and always) was/is to release more video content.  What exactly does that mean? What...

"Creative Differences" Release Party//Behind the Scenes and The Future

Image
Hey AllOne Family!      Incredibly, this week marks two months since my most recent project was released!   "Creative Differences (A Split)" , an EP with my fellow friend and lyricist Owen, "D.o.drent" that was produced by talented UK producer Tony Mahoney .   The digital release was July 29th and the physical album release party was August 2nd, and I will get to the release party in a little bit. It was breathtaking!  I'm happy to report that the album   has thankfully been received with warm praise and people seem to be connecting with the material and remarking on the new direction of singing and subject choice on the album in it's favor.  I intended it to be a very direct project and Owen and I worked very hard to combine our utmost emotional sincerity with our most ambitious intellectual efforts to create something wholly genuine, challenging and connective.  I feel we succeeding in blending our styles and working over Tony Mahoney...

6/13 & 6/14 Two days with friends in Syracuse

Image
Goodbye Albany, Hello Syracuse!       Friday morning started with me reading in Danielle's house and her waking up a bit hungover from her birthday merriment. That being said, I wished her a good morning and a happy birthday and she asked if I'd like to accompany her to the humble little garden level Hamilton Street Cafe that Jeany works at but she could never attend because she's always working the relevant hours. I of course, conceded and treated her to a birthday breakfast in an attempt to thank her for her hospitality. She dropped me at the bus stop and we hugged goodbye, glad to have met new friends. I had about an hour and while waiting for the bus to Syracuse, I finished reading the Chicken Soup For The Soul: Inspiration For Writers book my mom bought me. Overall, some of it felt a bit redundant but most of it was inhabited by strong and sincere anecdotes that jostled me into some thought. It was nice that each essay was usually only 4 pages maximum so...

6/12 Feeling at Home in Albany, Day 2

Image
Hello all, from All, from Albany!  I had the pleasure of meeting a wealth of new people and exploring the charming, if overcast, city of Albany which I recommend you do someday as well!  Found a wonderful venue that made me feel at home!  Lets see where life takes us... A Literary morning ritual, and new song!      I woke up and I read for a while before anyone else was awake. Writing and reading, especially in the morning, is hugely valuable to me. The ideas are fresh in my head if I'm writing and while my brain may be slow to function if I've gotten little sleep, it's also recently gathered some typically interesting things in a dream state.  I have a pretty strict ritual of reading in the morning, it wakes me up and gets my brain churning and chewing on ideas!  Danielle and her roommate Jeany woke up at some point and Danielle offered me her green tea generously. Feeling inspired, I sat by the window to look out on t...
