"Minimal Friends" with NOX (2018 Collaborations Overview 2/5)

Image
“ Minimal Friends” NOX (prod. By Kev Brown) [March 2018] https://soundcloud.com/kingnox/minimal-friends-ft-allone Nox in full-form performing NOX is a fellow Long Island rapper and was a relatively new friend at the time of this collaboration, after catching him live a handful of times, it was clear we both had a verbose and intellectual approach to writing with an insistent emphasis on our strange sides and leaning into our interests. He's a fantastic freestyler (Here are some episodes of my Spontaneous Sundays with AllOne we did together: Ep. 55   ep. 60 , ep. 90 ) as well so we bonded on our love for the improvised craft. Nox, like Jesse, presented the ideal preparedness for a guest request, bringing the lo-fi Kev Brown instrumental to me as well as his fully formed verse and a solid intention for my role in the track. When he told me the theme and that he intended on calling it “minimal friends”, a sort of anthem for the outsider, a confessional tribute to...

"I'm About To Save Your Life" (National Poetry Month poem-a-day) day 5

“ I'm About To Save Your Life” (Criminal Episode11) Written by Bruce A. Pandolfo 4/5/2017  Call him "Rob”, what he was not who he is, for his honor. Engineer, in his mid-fourties in the late seventies. Mild mannered, short, he looked maybe seventeen. Tried avoiding traffic detouring through several streets. There are no short cuts, Robert. The roads wound labyrinthine through Compton, He knew the reputation that the area had in fact, The lost drive almost drove him to a panic attack Upset and distracted, he accidentally scratched a Cadillac There is no free lunch. Someone conned him. Boys ran towards him, one yanked open his door grabbed the wheel, pushed Rob's weight aside looked him in his eyes “ I'm about to save your life” What he didn't mention is “you're gonna pay the price” It should have been a hint that Leone's name was Moore Leone parked and said the scraped 'lac was his families', info wa...

"The Perfect Specimen" (National Poetry Month-Poem A-Day) Day 3

Image
The Perfect Specimen (Criminal Episode 36) written by Bruce A. Pandolfo 4/3/17 The Treaty Oak For more than five centuries, A Southern Live Oak set the scene an Austin Texas centerpiece as long as memory, Treaty Oak elder's seen this entire country get its feet, rooted long before we were ever seeds. An ancient arbor of immensity, average canopy can peak capped at 50 feet but its sprawling branches broadly spanning a brawny massive hundred feet across, its contortionist form twisted, tinseled in Spanish moss, The rings it's got, can you imagine all the things it saw, The trials and tribulations of tribal natives the languid limbs swaying waving in winds bereft of industrialization, spied tribes of Native Americans assessing it with reverence, Seen Steve meet chiefs achieving land possession taken and make a state that became Texas and it was there in '22 that one of its brethren was chopped and tattooed to...

"Custodian Chronicles Volume 1..." by Tim Will Hunting (Book Review)

Custodian Chronicles Volume 1: An Inside Look at the American Public School System as Seen Through the Eyes of Its Most Underrated Player: The Janitor (and Other Musings)  ...A Book Review... So yes that is a book title.  Yes it is long winded.  Yes I am also long winded.  I will try my best not to be.  If you want the long and short of it (which, funny enough always means "the short") if you want to read something original, eye-opening and knee slapping then you should definitely    CLICK HERE AND BUY THIS BOOK AND READ IT. My friend and fellow Long Islander Tim Almeida, front-man of the socially conscious live-band alternative rock/hip-hop group  The Native Alien Tribe  aka Tim Will Hunting ( who rapped with me for Spontaneous Sundays with AllOne episode 4 ) and of course hard-working Custodian, self-published his debut book based on his  CUSTODIAN CHRONICLES BLOG   and  PODCAST  which I had t...

Notes from the studio: On "Killing Your Darlings"

Image
Hey AllOne Family,      I hope this finds you well... I don't know if "Notes From The Studio" will be a recurring series but I wanted to do a little more talking about the craft and details/decisions behind what I do because I do put a lot of time and effort and mental energy into my creative process and I do love "talking shop" so much that I had this experience and I thought to write about it and invite you into this little window of my world and perhaps you could get something out of it, either as a creator yourself or just perhaps a nugget of information to satisfy any generous curiosity you might have. A few weeks ago, I tracked a new verse for a guest spot on a song from DRENT and Kleen Kut's next "Illiterate Wordsmiths" project "Edgar Allens Ave" .  The song is about bullying, suicide and loss and each rapper on the song plays a different character and role in the drama.  The incredible Ceschi of Fake Four Inc. is also...
