The Empowering Nature of Willpower

The Empowering Nature Of Willpower Lessons spurred by Cormac McCarthy & Jocko Willink   "But more than one of his friends describes McCarthy as a "chameleon, able to adjust easily to any surroundings and company because he seems so secure in what he will and will not do."   I came across this description of Cormac McCarthy in a 1992 article in New York Times by Richard B. Woodward . The article precedes McCarthy's masterful elegiac Western,  All The Pretty Horses . The novel was his first widely celebrated success and kicked off his Border Trilogy , which to my mind, is one of the greatest trilogies in fiction. The quote shook me. This depiction of the elusive author speaks to the power of self-awareness and the comfort of self-identity.  It says much of the equanimity born of a relationship of trust with oneself brought about by discipline. Ex-Marine turned motivation speaker Jocko Willink's counterintuitive credo,   "DISCIPLINE EQUALS FREEDOM" f...

"Inkwell-being" with Jesse Ramos (2018 collaborations overview 1/5)

Hey AllOne Family,      As we continue into early 2019 I thought it might be another fun retrospective weekly series to highlight some of the music I shared a role in throughout 2018. This year and 2015 were the only two years since 2010 that I didn't release some sort of full EP or LP project since I started sharing music publicly in 2010. However, Two-thousand and Collaborateen this was appropriately a relatively fecund year for quality collaborations and as a bonus, nearly all of them were unprecedented collaborations with artist friends as well!      Here is the start of an overview of a few of the songs that made it to the public ear (some that I wrote and recorded are still in behind-the-curtain stages). I felt it may be interesting to know the origins of relationship that spawned them and perhaps to know a brief comment on my intent and experience writing them.      I genuinely enjoy writing guest verses and answering t...

"Break The Internet" (National Poetry Month poem-a-day) Day 13

“ Break The Internet” Criminal Episode 12 written by Bruce A. Pandolfo 4/13/2017 Give him thirty minutes and he'll know your whole story. He'll need a computer, of course. It all started with those ubiquitous AOL CD's in the 90s. He just wanted free internet. Figured that out pretty quickly, Dastardly digital cunning. Started downloading free music and movies. Couldn't wait in line online. So he did what anyone would do... you know, got in touch with the hackers, hacked away at their prejudices then hacked away for their tests. Ended up befriending this troupe of Russian rascals while hacking into University servers, Slept through school classes as he stayed up learning, sure not to alert or lure anyone to his private piracy. Now we're talking year 2000, He goes by MafiaBoy. It's comforting to know the professional pirates of the pixel planes aren't exempt from embarrassing internet handles. ...

"Emotional Baggage Bard Tour" 2/8-2/12/17  Into the Heart of the Storm and Out of the Tour in One Piece (Syracuse,  Saratoga Springs and Rochester NY) Greetings my fellow adventurers!  When we last met I'd passed out at my grandmother's house on February 8th after a very successful performance experience in New York City's "Parkside Lounge". I woke up at my Grandmother's house to an unrealistically beautiful day with summer weather in the 60s.  We had a huge breakfast together, caught one another up on our personal goings on and what was happening that we knew of throughout the branches of family happenings.  After breakfast, I worked out in my late Grandfather's basement gym. Reflecting on a friend, a patriarch, a hero My Poppy, as all his grandchildren knew him, Tony "Sonny" Pandolfo, is one of the staples of what is considered the golden age of bodybuilding.  He was a disciplined, walking legend of a man whose physique ...

"Emotional Baggage Bard Tour" 2/3/17 - 2/7/17: Gamboling and Gallivanting in Providence Hello Hello fellow wanderers! Where were we when we last spoke a little over a week ago?  Ah, I was curled up in a ball in the backseat of my car in Connecticut off of  I-95 after nearly running myself off the road headed north post-show in my soporific keychain of a car!  That Friday morning, I woke up cold and cramped with the only thing warm about me was a red hot knife in my side.  I thrashed about and coughed stifled screams.  The culprit was the cup-holder in the center of my back seat that had gradually burrowed with unforgiving persistence into my muscles.  I got out of my car and stretched in the cold while exhaling visibility and limped circling my car like a geriatric shark.  I hobbled into my  driver's seat with a cry and sped towards the the hobbit house location that is Owen "Drent"s esteemed residence that was bordered by a stretch of wo...
